Course Overview
Officially opened by Sir Nick Faldo in 1996, Golf Club Bad Saarow – Faldo Berlin looks and plays remarkably like a traditional Scottish links course. It is widely recognised as one of continental Europe’s finest championship layouts.
The only thing missing here is the North Sea! Presented with a windswept, sandy tract of land, my intention at Sporting Club Berlin was to create a classic links reminiscent of Scotland’s Muirfield and Carnoustie. For me, links courses have always represented the very purest of golfing challenges and I think the look and feel of this course captures the spirit of authentic links golf… albeit in the heart of Continental Europe. The course’s many deep pot bunkers and surprisingly undulating fairways ensure that this layout presents a strong challenge to golfers of all levels of ability; it is a course that inspires players to dig deep and push their golf to its very limits. I’m very proud of this design and I’m certain that it will remain one of the very best that Germany has to offer for many years to come.
