Course Overview
Situated on the most westerly point of Madeira Island in the Ponta do Pargo region and with over 600 feet of elevation change, the par-72 layout – the first new golf course in Madeira for more than 20 years – has been designed in a location of unrivalled natural beauty on a clifftop setting surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Three of its greens will sit close to the cliff edge, whilst its lowest point, the 16th green, will sit near Farol do Ponta do Pargo – the island’s lighthouse built in 1922.
In addition to the 18-hole golf course, Ponta da Pargo will also feature practice facilities including a driving range and chipping and putting green; a nine-hole pitch-and-putt course; a clubhouse and restaurant and a hotel when fully completed. Originally designed in 2007, Sir Nick and his design team updated the routing and design in 2023 to address changes in the game and improve the course’s sustainability value. The project is due to open in 2026.
We believe this will be a bucket list course that every golfer will dream of playing. The land, cliffs and views are so dramatic and stunning, so our objective was to utilise the unique terrain and ensure each hole is as captivating as the natural features already there.
Some of the incredible green locations may require some equally incredible shots to reach them, whilst others are fully exposed to the full force of the sea. Wide open linksland perched on clifftops has our whole team very excited.
