Chart Hills
Kent, United Kingdom

A bold, strategic championship golf course set amongst ancient oak trees in rolling English countryside

Course Overview

Chart Hills was Faldo Design’s first completed European project and was named Golf World’s ‘Best New Course in England’ upon opening in 1993. The club went on to host European Tour Qualifying and the English Ladies Open in the mid-2000’s. A course that exhibits great variety in its routing, broad fairways and bountiful hazards, and all set within a beautifully natural landscape, it offers both challenge and playability to golfers of all abilities.

With such an abundance of classic courses in the UK, this design was a real challenge for us, but I feel that we produced a very strong layout. Studded with ancient oak trees and gently undulating throughout, Chart Hills enjoys a beautiful and very English country setting. There are 18 very distinctive holes on the Championship course which, collectively, demand a great variety of shot-making skills, making this a very strategic test and a real thinking man’s golf course. More than anything, I wanted to design a course that would offer different challenges to different players and I believe we succeeded in that goal. Certainly, I doubt that anyone will ever tire of playing this course.

— Sir Nick Faldo

In recent years Faldo Design has returned to work with the club to broaden its commercial sustainability by expanding its golf facilities.  The work has included addition of a large dedicated Putting Green and The Loop, a multipurpose 6-hole Short Course with playability at its heart. Future work will see improvements made to the Practice Facilities.
