Faldo Design’s Angkor Golf Resort Returns to Limelight
For the second year in succession, Angkor Golf Resort will welcome many of Asia’s rising female golfing stars.
From October 18-21, the award-winning Faldo Design course will play host to the second edition of the Ladies European Tour (LET) Lalla Aicha Tour School.
Since opening in 2008, Angkor Golf Resort has received a raft of accolades and established itself as Cambodia’s premier tournament venue.
The resort hosted the Handa Faldo Cambodian Classic on the Asian Tour in 2012 and is home to the Faldo Series Cambodia Championship.
Six-time Major championship winner Sir Nick Faldo said: “I take tremendous pride in the fact that golf is starting to take off in Cambodia and that the course that I designed in Siem Reap is playing such a significant role in helping the game to grow.”
Alan Martin, PGA Head Professional at the resort, said: “Last year’s event was a great success for us at Angkor Golf Resort and we are all set to make this year’s event bigger and better.
“T-Galleria by DFS, Angkor have joined us as a main sponsor for this year. With their support, we look forward to providing the best possible Tour experience for the players.”
Alistair Johnson, General Manager of T Galleria by DFS, Angkor, said: “We are honoured to be the main sponsor for this year’s prestigious LET tournament.
“We are proud to stand alongside Angkor Golf Resort as partners in luxury for the growing numbers of world travellers and golf enthusiasts visiting Siem Reap. We look forward to a tremendous event.”
To be contested over four rounds, the Angkor Golf Resort event not only provides an exciting destination for participants, but also offers the opportunity to progress to the final stage of LET qualifying in Marrakech, Morocco.
Angkor Golf Resort is located five minutes from Siem Reap International Airport and 10 minutes from the fabled Angkor Wat temple.
“Cambodia has a budding golf tourism market and this event will showcase the world class facilities of Angkor Golf Resort,” said a club spokesperson.
Last year’s Lalla Aicha Tour School event featured players from six different countries.
Six players secured their spots at the Final Qualifying Stage in Morocco with China’s Liu Yan leading the qualifiers with a four-day total of 20-under-par 268, which included a course record nine-under 63 in round three. Liu went on to gain her full LET status after another solid performance in Morocco, where she finished tied for 25th.
